Our Story

We didn't build an app. We built something harder to ignore.

MindClarity Labs was founded on a simple premise: that focus is a solved problem in behavioral science, and the solution isn't more software. It's less.

The question that started it.

In 2023, our founder was reading Cal Newport's Deep Work for the third time while simultaneously checking his phone every four minutes. The irony became the thesis: the tools designed to help us focus are mostly distributed by the same companies designed to steal our attention. The productivity app and the distraction app live inside the same glass rectangle.

So the question became: what would a focus tool look like if it had no business relationship with the distraction device?

The research was already there.

We didn't invent the science. Peter Gollwitzer's work on implementation intentions has been replicated across hundreds of studies since 1999. Gloria Mark's interruption research at UC Irvine is twenty years old. Adrian Ward's Brain Drain study on phone presence was published in 2017. The findings are settled.

What was missing wasn't knowledge — it was a physical object built around it. A tool whose entire design language said: the next twenty-five minutes are not negotiable.

What we believe.

Focus is not a personality trait. It's a set of conditions — a trigger, a commitment, an external accountability layer, and the absence of the device in your pocket. We believe most people who think they 'can't focus' are simply working in environments engineered against focus.

The ClarityDial is our first attempt at engineering the other direction. It's one physical object that does one thing. No updates. No subscriptions. No notifications. The simplicity is the feature.

If a ceramic mug of coffee can anchor a morning ritual, a magnetic timer can anchor a focus ritual. That's the entire thesis.

Where we're going.

The ClarityDial is the first object in a small family of tools we're building around behavioral-science-backed focus. The Productivity Planner is the second. The catalogue will grow slowly and on purpose — we'd rather ship one object that replaces a bad habit than ten objects that sit in drawers.

If you want to follow along, subscribe below. We send one email a month. It's not a newsletter — it's a letter. You can reply to it. We read everything.

Start with the dial. Everything else follows.

The ClarityDial is where the system begins — one physical object, thirty years of research, zero apps. Try it for thirty days. If it doesn't change how you start focused work, we'll refund you.
